Challenge

General Traffic is an automotive parts distributor with 21 sites and 170 delivery vehicles. It offers parts delivery within the hour to a wide range of garages and similar sites, receiving over 4,000 customer calls per day. The company had used Trakm8 vehicle tracking for five years. It wanted an enhanced telematics solution that combined vehicle tracking and driver behaviour with electronic proof of delivery (ePod). Most importantly, the solution had to be fully integrated with Autopart from MAM Software, a management system that General Traffic already used.

Deployment 

Trakm8 provided PDAs to General Traffic’s drivers, to enable electronic proof of delivery. It moved the company onto its latest web-based telematics platform, which includes vehicle tracking, geofencing, driver behaviour analysis, and alerts the transport manager if a vehicle is parked up with the engine idling. The system is fully integrated with Autopart, providing General Traffic with a single-source solution.

Results

The combined ePOD and telematics functionality helps General Traffic to quickly resolve customer queries about delivery status. It has also made it easier for the transport team to manage drivers and has led to a reduction in expenditure on fuel.
